Nora month-by-month: #10

10 month old Nora is a girl on the move! She started crawling properly shortly after her 9 month day, and has been picking up speed and agility ever since. You can tell she is thrilled to be mobile at last, finally chasing down all the chokables and Elliott toys her heart desires.

That’s the big difference this time. We now navigate a curious, happy, mobile baby alongside a little boy who gets mighty possessive of his toys. The biggest area of conflict is Elliott’s train track. Each day he sets up his trains, and Nora turns into “Nora-zilla,” crawling over and destroying all of them in her attempt to eat them. As you can imagine, Mr. Elliott is not a fan. I’ve finally taught him to yell out to me when she’s coming, instead of just getting mad and pushing her or swatting her away. So every few minutes “mama, Nora is coming for my trains!” I know this is only the very beginning of a lifetime of this!

Other Nora developments – she loves to clap and wave. She says “mama” beautifully, and has the sweetest giggle in the world. She continues to enjoy feeding herself, and we’ve been giving her more and more finger foods. She had all 4 molars come in at once the last couple of weeks, and now has 12 teeth. When these last teeth were erupting, she started biting me again when nursing. Rather than work through it again, and given the strength of her bite and her number of teeth, I threw in the nursing towel about 1 week ago. She does not care one bit that we are no longer nursing. I’m a little sad it’s all done, particularly because this was likely my last time nursing, but my overriding emotion is pride that we nursed as long as we did, and happiness that my baby is healthy and I gave her such a good start to life.

We’ve had lots of activity particularly these last couple of weeks, with Grandma Susan and Papa Timm at the house. So much so, it took me a couple extra days to write this post and take her 10 month onesie picture! I’m glad Grandma and Grandpa got to spend so much time with Elliott and Nora. Pictures and video calls help a lot, but there’s nothing like being here in person to really get to know the babies. We’re looking forward to Grandma Dana visiting in a few more weeks!

Nora’s first crawls. Within days she was a much more efficient and proper crawler, but so cute to see these very first crawls.

The clapping! Pure adorableness!

Our home is so peaceful these days.

Nora is pulling herself up to stand every now and then. Elliott is greatly amused by it, until he gets too excited to show her something and she gets knocked over unless we’re close by!

Crawling comes with its challenges.

A gorgeous day at the beach a couple of weeks back. Nora is playing in the sand for the first time, and clearly thinking “what the hell is this crap????”

She warmed up to the sand, though. She even did a face plant in the sand at Golden Gardens, and came up with a jazz patch, just like dad!

The after effects of the baby ponytail. Faux hawk!

The most precious baby girl in the entire world!

When Nora finds a pillow on the ground, she cuddles up with it. It pretty much just melts your heart each time it happens.

And pictures with Grandma and Grandpa. We went to the beach, the Museum of Flight, played around the house, went swimming, made treats, and of course all the birthday fun.
